Our current advanced search has been static for years and since then other advanced search systems have evolved and people have become comfortable with these newer approaches. Bottom line: our existing advanced search is a bit clunky! So we have prioritised work on this and here is the first look:

As mentioned early days, but you can see the direction we’re taking. I’d like to think we can have the proper version released in the next 2 months.

Can advance search be used to find citations? for example, if I wanted to find guidelines and policy documents that cite a particular study?

Hi Tomas,
Alas not! We have a related product, which will be out soon which uses citations (https://blog.tripdatabase.com/2023/06/07/connected-articles-a-progress-update/) but that doesn’t have the ability to do that.
For citations we’re using OpenAlex and that relies on DOIs as identifiers. So, we should be able to link to guidelines if they have DOIs, but many don’t. NICE for instance don’t. Another possibility is extractions citations when we index. But then NICE, and many others, don’t list their references in the guidelines.
I like the idea of having results in Trip showing where they are used (e.g. used in a guideline or SR) and that’s doable but only in a limited way (as outlined above). There may be other technological fixes that are out there but nothing springs to my mind.
Best wishes
jon
